IDEAS FOR ACKNOWLEDGING STUDENTS

Each school region is responsible for selecting their representatives based on criteria outlined in the Heritage Fairs Organizers Kit and Criteria that best meets the focus of the school region.

The adjudication process is as individual as each community.

Creating awards at your local level that reflect components of project possibilities is a good way to recognize students. Very often there is a sponsor who would be thrilled to sponsor and present this award.

          For example:   Best Project About

a local hero
Personal story
a local building
Canadian Technology
a local event
Canadian / local Scientist
Canadian hero
Canadian / local Artist
Canadian Building
Canadian / local Musician
Canadian event in the past
Canadian / local Mathematician
Canadian event now
Canadian / local Historian

We are encouraging all of you to invite members of the Ontario Historical Societies in your communities, Retired Teacher’s Organization, trustees, school council, alumni, local politicians, veterans, and others to participate as adjudicators at school and regional fairs.

Above all students are to enjoy the experience and feel valued for their efforts.

Connect with Local Libraries and Museums to feature outstanding projects or projects of interest about local history. Extending visibility helps encourage others to participate and validates the great work of teachers and students alike. Often it is the local libraries and museums that provided materials for the children to complete their projects.

IDEA
Find out when the next Board meeting is following the Provincial Fair. Have the students who went to Provincial set up their projects in the foyer outside the Board Meeting area. Ask your Board Director and Chair it they would present a certificate of Appreciation to the children during the Board meeting. Have a child thank the Board for supporting their work and have them briefly tell why it was a great experience.
